Queen Liliuokalani was the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Islands and Nation. She was illegally over thrown, wrongly imprisoned, and did nothing to deserve any of this. The United States have took notice of the illegal taking of the Hawaiian Islands from its native people but did not do anything to fix it. They simply said ” We Sorry, but too late now…Get over it” to every single Native Hawaiian to their face. Now we are struggling to keep our culture, keep our language, and keep who we are alive. this is what happens after 3 hours of yard work in the sun when you’re [half] Native Hawaiian (not that i’m saying it’s a prerequisite)… no burning but i’m sure it’s not exactly healthy either… forgot sunblock… oops.

it still amazes me that the ancient Native Hawaiians went through such painstaking processes to put capes such as this together… and they did so without harming a single bird… they only took a few feathers at a time.

this cape belonged to King Kamehameha and took more than 60,000 mamo birds to make. i am grateful to be Native Hawaiian and am proud of my heritage. :)

this is probably one of my most favorite photos of all time so far… you don’t expect to see something like this in Hawai’i, but it’s there… and it’s magical… and it’s gorgeous. i’m so lucky and proud to call Hawai’i my home and even prouder to say that i am Native Hawaiian.
